Description: Zombies are dead men controlled by a sorcerer.
Origin: Haiti and West Africa
Almost all zombies in Hollywood moves are undead creatures that eat human flesh, making them more like ghouls in the scheme of such things, rather than 'true' zombies.
The Haitian tradition, which arrived with slaves from West Africa, was that a zombie was a corpse revived by a sorcerer, or bokur, and command it to do his bidding.
Research into tales of zombieism in Haiti in the 20th Century led to claims that some so-called sorcerers had used powerful drugs on living victims - to convince them that they had died and had been revived as zombies.
