Monday's child is fair of face;
Tuesday's child is full of grace;
Wednesday's child is full of woe;
Thursday's child has far to go;
Friday's child is loving and giving;
Saturday's child works hard for a living.
But the child that is born on the Sabbath day
is fair and wise, good and gay.
Origin: Europe, also South-east Asia
In Scotland it was said that a child born on a Sunday would be secure from the malice of evil spirits. In Thailand and parts of China a very similar superstition still holds that the weekday of someone's birth shapes their character and influence their fortunes. In some areas people may not even be sure what year they were born, but they will know what day of the week it was.
