Description: Vampires are nearly indestructible bloodsucking monsters animated by an evil 'undead' spirit.
Origin: Eastern Europe
Let us recall the days before the 'Twilight' novels, when vampires didn't twinkle in the sunlight and were truly something to be feared. They not only set new standards in supernatural terror for a thousand years, they also established the essential style and dress code since followed by every Hollywood Lord of Evil from Ming the Merciless to Darth Vader.
Romanian legend says that vampirism was the fate of criminals, excommunicated sinners, witches and unbaptised babies. The stake wielded by vampire-hunters was best made from rose-wood, but an iron spike through a vampire did a fine job too.
