Description: If you blow out all of the candles on your birthday cake with the first breath you will get whatever you wish for
Origin: Ancient Greek
The tradition of placing candles on a cake of honey is said to come from ancient Greek offerings to Artemis, the goddess of the moon - the candles made the offering glow like the face of the moon. Ancient magicians believed the flames of candles gave protection against spells, and the dancing of the flame could foretell the future.
